Just a couple months ago, their back catalogue was reissued on CD on Rhino, which is part of Warners, who own their longtime US/Canada and Phil Collins's solo label Atlantic. While the rights are now under Concords counterpart to Rhino, Craft Recordings, I thought that the indie powerhouse would have the CDs as well as new LPs be distributed by Virgin, once the bands international and Collins's UK solo home and now Universals distribution division for independent labels, of which the original Virgin was until it was sold to EMI in 1992 so Richard Branson could keep his airline from entering administration and compete with British Airways.</p><p> While it takes a period for these buyouts and transitions to bear fruit, I found out when I saw a new CD of <i>A Trick of the Tail</i> at Barnes & Noble. Then saw on Discogs that most of the studio albums are now available on the new label. Now we wait for new LPs, even though I just need the last two because they originally came out in the '90s, when fewer people bought them anymore, and later albums and editions can be expensive, new or used. The first two albums are an exception. <i>From Genesis to Revelation</i> has been reissued a thousand times and was not owned by the band. <i>Trespass</i> is still controlled by Universal in North America as they are the successor to original label ABC (until the sale, it was under the same roof globally). Then the label designs since there's no scans of the new versions available and I have all the old CDs from different parts of the world, so unless the original release had a custom label like <i>Duke</i>, could the Charisma <i>Alice in Wonderland</i> one be used (Universal and Warners have licenced each others labels for Beatles and Syd Barrett reissues since EMIs split in 2013). Then there are the live albums and compilations (including boxed sets), as well as solo releases from the three longtime members. Now we wait and see which of their peers will cash out next.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Milford, Godalming GU8, UK51.1150457 -0.628552922.804811863821158 -35.7848029 79.425279536178849 34.5276971tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-64422396638178329722024-02-19T07:56:00.012-05:002024-02-20T06:01:33.854-05:00Retrospect Records: A Retrospective<p> </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.discogs.com/wYYtiV9xGoTWJ0HcEZ64AUQRF5N3KgXD-WNpyxWuoL4/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:147/w:486/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9MLTc5NzA0/LTE0MTMwMTk4ODIt/MTk4Ni5qcGVn.jpeg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="147" data-original-width="486" height="147" src="https://i.discogs.com/wYYtiV9xGoTWJ0HcEZ64AUQRF5N3KgXD-WNpyxWuoL4/rs:fit/g:sm/q:90/h:147/w:486/czM6Ly9kaXNjb2dz/LWRhdGFiYXNlLWlt/YWdlcy9MLTc5NzA0/LTE0MTMwMTk4ODIt/MTk4Ni5qcGVn.jpeg" width="486" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Logo appears under fair use and label may no longer exist. They were once one of the biggest independent metal labels in the world. I also knew them for selling used CDs like anyone else. They offered bootlegs and Russian pirates, as well as artists not easily found in the US like Gary Moore and Magnum (which led me to write this). I've bought IQ, Pallas, Yes and solo Rick Wakeman for myself and Queensrÿche and maybe Billy Squier for Boris (I would've bought even more if money weren't an object!). Whether the pandemic or just the economy since did them in, it's an all too familiar scene these days across the board. As a label, they may not have had the resources that even other indies have. Fish and his label are one thing since there's no one else on it. Retrospect are another since they signed dozens of obscure artists like Mystery (not the French Canadian band I know, since generic names can mean two or more people with a conflict).</p><p><span> Like a regular news outlet, I reached out to the owner for comment, something I don't typically do. I simply asked what happened as a past customer and not as a blogger. I haven't ordered from them in over ten years time and they haven't had anything new since at least April of last year. The owner told me that he stopped renewing his subscription to the host service, thinking it wasn't worth a bother anymore. Even a free service is not on. We'll just have to let this one go as there are plenty of other places to order from and there's nothing on the label even worth reselling if you ask me.</span><br /></p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Clark County, NV, USA36.0795613 -115.0940457.7693274638211562 -150.250295 64.389795136178847 -79.937795tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-11066371509138230762024-02-17T06:31:00.002-05:002024-02-18T08:01:14.572-05:00Marillion: Childhood Mysteries<p> </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaJ0w0e1kbZdBw0SRYdqY_QV2eKTSt1329iiPR3pyqtz68o8FtJVVblCKfvPJUqpAhZiJobuE58mkTrErx4Vvk0UQDF3IFa_eshG-2eGI0aavSjwV-EBuY8Nl7MEftR9IB30rQ2dis9GsS4B5KcXiWnExTTaxJeCvPCEet0odEjbjZq-r-j8orio0T/s4000/IMG_20240215_191115011.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4000" data-original-width="3000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjaJ0w0e1kbZdBw0SRYdqY_QV2eKTSt1329iiPR3pyqtz68o8FtJVVblCKfvPJUqpAhZiJobuE58mkTrErx4Vvk0UQDF3IFa_eshG-2eGI0aavSjwV-EBuY8Nl7MEftR9IB30rQ2dis9GsS4B5KcXiWnExTTaxJeCvPCEet0odEjbjZq-r-j8orio0T/s320/IMG_20240215_191115011.jpg" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The cover that was meant to be</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p></p><p><span> </span>Marillion played Castle Donington in Leicestershire in August 1985 on an all-star bill that included ZZ Top (on their <i>Afterburner</i> tours Europe leg), Bon Jovi (not yet that big, promoting <i>7800° F</i>), Metallica (between albums) and Magnum. Whether Marillions show was soundboard, radio or just the typical fan recording is likely one of the mysteries! It's when it made it onto bootleg is what leads us here. One early edition looked more like an early '70s head shop release with a cheap photocopy cover with what looks more like a drawing Peter Nicholls from IQ. Another looked like an apple of some sort. The most common is what may drawn intrigue for nearly four decades for diehards of both bands. The label probably tried to come up with something at short notice comparable to Mark Wilkinsons fantasy style, so they decided to steal another designers sleeve. Rodney Matthews drew the cover of Magnums 1983 release <i>The Eleventh Hour!</i> It was originally released on Jet Records, Ozzy Osbournes former solo label, and his estranged father-in-law the late Don Arden ran it and would have sorted out whoever nicked the sleeve if he knew! On one of the Facebook groups, a fan showed his copy of the LP that Fish signed. I had Bill Bruford sign a King Crimson pirate CD, but that's a bit different (we've done that).</p><p> Magnums lead songwriter and guitarist Tony Clarkin, who passed on 7 January this year, didn't like his own band being bootlegged (most people wouldn't). The last thing he'd want is for the cover of one their studio albums being used for another artists bootleg. When I bought it a few years ago in my area at a great price, I didn't realise at first until it said so on Discogs. I had an earlier Marillion drawing combining elements of <i>Script for a Jesters Tear</i>, <i>Misplaced Childhood</i>, <i>Brave</i> and <i>Marbles</i> (the last two from the Steve Hogarth era), but the original disappeared a long time ago and I'd have to see if it's still online somewhere. I went to the charity shop and bought this bordered paper and coloured pencils, originally for a promotion next door at the coffee shop for St Valentines Day (they got one of my cats!). I also had some pastels for bits that couldn't be pencilled in. I was trying to make Robert Mead, the youngster on the <i>Misplaced</i> cover in the style of Loren Bouchard (<i>Bobs Burgers</i>/<i>The Great North</i>) because I don't draw people too often. He turns out similar to <i>The Great North</i>s Moon since they'd be the same age and have the Will Byers (<i>Stranger Things</i> since it's that time period) look to boot!<br /></p><p> I have Magnum to get for Boris and I wouldn't have heard of them if not for the list. I may look into them myself. <i>The Eleventh Hour!</i> isn't on it, but he could get it for me since I may not find it on my own since little of theirs came out in North America in the old days. If part of the cover is missing when it comes, I'll just photocopy the bootleg and cover up Marillion parts with bits of scrap paper. Even band photos of the show would have worked better once it was on CD, although it'd be a matter of getting cameras past security (video ones even more so once they were more versatile for the consumer market long before mobile phones could do all this and the internet), yet several photos were taken and are available. One could hide tape machines somehow. They scan for such things and even have clear bag policies in some venues today, yet people can still get these made if they have the knowhow and connections. It was still the Wild West in the '80s, and more of a challenge by the '90s as artists and venues became more strict about this. At least I could put to bed this anomaly of a bootleg cover.<br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVE3eMp0k83IFK4iEnVAv3NbcSOgDlVhME4gfNcTDJzyTmSXL1rWOL-iAVjsz4SLq8fmSPqy5aPQsd2fcSYWePZEL2R8qb_FMNTCqLRXV4qkuGXMkANOCiqczEF-lOoFzi1VkRSJcfT_D8-gUZFfxORZ4BkrtQvEy83ccLPbnIvko_sdBBOBvZ_HnU/s3752/IMG_20240215_165356609.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1765" data-original-width="3752" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVE3eMp0k83IFK4iEnVAv3NbcSOgDlVhME4gfNcTDJzyTmSXL1rWOL-iAVjsz4SLq8fmSPqy5aPQsd2fcSYWePZEL2R8qb_FMNTCqLRXV4qkuGXMkANOCiqczEF-lOoFzi1VkRSJcfT_D8-gUZFfxORZ4BkrtQvEy83ccLPbnIvko_sdBBOBvZ_HnU/s320/IMG_20240215_165356609.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here are the tracks anyway. It's just that there's now enough to put in a 5 CD mini-LP boxed set, which can be rounded up with a rare 1993 performance at the Borderline in London to promote <i>Before & After</i>, which closed the original Capitol contract that started in its own right with 1989s <i>Tim Finn</i> (which allowed him to join their Neil in Crowded House for 1991s <i>Woodface</i>).</p><p> Universals acquisition of much of EMI in 2013 would put much of the catalogue together, such as 1986s <i>Big Canoe</i> on Virgin (which EMI bought in 1992). A&M (see Wikipedia for more because it gets too easy for me to do the Cliffs Notes) only released <i>Escapade</i> in North America, probably as part of a contract clause. Later albums would be released through EMI or Universal before the sale, but Finn owns the rights to those now, and he and his management Commercial Music Group would likely decide on those reissue rights. 1995s <i>Finn</i> (one of two albums by the brothers in neither band) only just got a remaster, yet the licence is through BMG (on CD) because of Fleetwood Macs deal there, which Neil joined in 2018. Tim Finn trying to licence if not get back the masters of the first ten years of his solo career would be a feat to do this himself since Fish and Camel were lucky to even reissue their first albums on their own indie labels, but those are for another day, but you get the idea now.</p><p> The idea here is for Universal to put the early solo albums in one package. Plan B would be for Edsel/Demon/BBC to have a limited edition boxed set like they have for every vintage of Kiki Dee (coming out of Elton Johns shadow), or even Memorandum Recordings in Australia (Raven Records went out of business last year, and I can't find something comparable for Australasian artists). Vinyl remasters would be nice too, and just have a few thousand would cut costs, even for a Record Store Day run before they disappear or get touted (you know how it is). While Tim Finns albums can either be streamed or even purchased online or found in shops for not too much money, they deserve to be back in print and given updated treatment which is long overdue like for tonnes of other people.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Te Awamutu, New Zealand-38.0087105 175.3210648-66.318944336178845 140.1648148 -9.6984766638211539 -149.5226852tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-11645110274650274502024-01-01T17:17:00.028-05:002024-01-06T07:50:56.207-05:00Black Sabbath: The Tony Martin/IRS Years Boxed Set 1987-95 (not 1991-92)<p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://images.wolfgangsvault.com/m/xlarge/ZZZ010437-PP/black-sabbath-promo-print-.webp" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="800" height="620" src="https://images.wolfgangsvault.com/m/xlarge/ZZZ010437-PP/black-sabbath-promo-print-.webp" width="800" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>Forbidden</i> era photo issued by label and agent for press and media, 1995. There was red tape for management and the solicitors to sort out, which held up the release the past few years, but these long overdue remasters will finally be available on 17 May from BMG. <i>The Eternal Idol</i> from 1987 may not be included as that was the last release from the old contract with Warner Bros in the US and Canada and Vertigo/Phonogram for international (the band would return to those labels at different points [Dio reunion on Reprise, final Ozzy one in 2013] with reunited other lineups). Glenn Hughes (who also recorded two non-Sabbath albums with Tony Iommi, which <i>Seventh Star</i> was supposed to be until the label forced a compromise) and the late Ray Gillen (later in Badlands) went to Phenomena, as had Martin once (we've done Ian Gillan), while ELOs Bev Bevan, who was part of the <i>Born Again</i> tour, had a cameo on <i>Idol</i>, thus he and Martin are the only non-original former members from the Birmingham, West Midlands area.<div>This upcoming release however will likely focus on albums originally from Miles Copelands IRS Records, which no longer exists (although technically part of Universal, having been distributed by A&M, MCA and EMI/Capitol), yet Iommi is said to own the masters now, yet it took a long time to get this done, since it can take more of a wait to get them back than it did to put them out in the first place, as this comes up with other people too (story for another day). I managed to get copies of the studio albums more than once at doable prices, but oftentimes, they can be expensive like other rare albums (you know how it is). I'd like the LPs, as well as <i>Cross Purposes Live</i>, which may be the scarcest of the lot. There could even be unreleased material from the vaults to boot not even on bootlegs, but nothing newly recorded like with the Dio compilation that came out when he was still alive, which warranted the spinoff because only the Ozzy-led group can be Sabbath proper going forward, and that's over for good now, between health and interpersonal issues, but we won't cover any of that today.<div>Since EMIs sale over a decade ago, it was confusing to tell whether Warner or Universal had the rights to the catalogue. <i>Dehumanizer</i>, the last Dio album with the Sabbath name, was on IRS outside North America and never got deleted, and it appears Universal have that. As for the Martin period, both that and the brief return of the <i>Mob Rules</i> lineup had to compete with the hair bands then grunge if not Britpop, just as the founding members had to contend with punk and new wave in the mid-to-late '70s on top of their first lineup change (with onetime Savoy Brown and Fleetwood Mac member Dave Walker, then Ronnie James Dio in 1979 after Ozzy Osbourne left a <i>second</i> time).</div><div>I wouldn't count on <i>The Sabbath Stones</i> collection being in there either since that has tracks from every recorded vocalist but Osbourne (Gillen never appeared on an official original release, while Walker made it to Auntie). The Martin era has built a cult following of its own and will finally see the light of day once again since he said that he can't earn anything from it until it's back in the shops once more.</div></div>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Belgrave Rd, Leigh-on-Sea, Southend-on-Sea, Leigh-on-Sea SS9 5HE, UK51.5717919 0.6389760999999999423.261558063821155 -34.5172739 79.882025736178846 35.7952261tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-2772801524424609622023-12-30T08:23:00.002-05:002023-12-31T06:52:59.320-05:00Musify/Myzuka<p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-1F7jBRBEfFwYpXoll_7KWwDsXK80G9At0AyVBQZF_7Jm9timemgf5oOi6BicgIGQmGR1zj41JXTlF2RSzNQy45T5E5i-j0gjVzHD91AjAwmLrwPbrI7kB04GtvxgSvoo9D7MSvJNaPD58IzWQjzkGf_b8ROPg4AQq2OJxcVOAss45WmueNaro94h/s316/Bush_Loaded.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="316" data-original-width="316" height="316" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-1F7jBRBEfFwYpXoll_7KWwDsXK80G9At0AyVBQZF_7Jm9timemgf5oOi6BicgIGQmGR1zj41JXTlF2RSzNQy45T5E5i-j0gjVzHD91AjAwmLrwPbrI7kB04GtvxgSvoo9D7MSvJNaPD58IzWQjzkGf_b8ROPg4AQq2OJxcVOAss45WmueNaro94h/s1600/Bush_Loaded.jpg" width="316" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Courtesy Round Hill Records</td></tr></tbody></table><br /> By the cover art can be obtained from <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Hill_Music" title="Columbia Records">Round Hill Music</a> / <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bush_(British_band)" title="Sony Music">Zuma Rock Records</a>., <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bush_Loaded.jpg" title="Fair use of copyrighted material in the context of Aerosmith (album)">Fair use</a>, <a href="https://www.discogs.com/release/28856503-Bush-Loaded-The-Greatest-Hits-1994-2023/image/SW1hZ2U6MTAyNzgyNjU2">Link</a><p></p><div><span> </span>It seems like sister pirate mp3 sites Myzuka.club and Musify.club have lost the plot. After uploading dozens of albums to both simultaneously (it's a package deal) for over a decade, it seems they don't want anymore from me. I uploaded two albums they don't have yet, <i>The Messenger</i> from Pallas and <i>Loaded: The Greatest Hits 1994-2023</i> by Bush (pictured). For the latter, I worked around it by going to an unofficial compilation by updating tracks that had a lower bit rate and adding ones not already there. I had downloaded the new official one legally from amazon since I got it free when I bought the CD from them around the time of Gavin Rossdales birthday and the bands most recent show in my area last fall. Pallas on the other hand are more limited by comparison. Had to go to another site for them. Can't afford Bandcamp too. To boot, band leader and manager Graeme Murray is also a barrister (albeit in criminal law rather than civil), so it may be karma for both bands; also considering neo-prog contemporaries' IQ and Jadis' Martin Orfords war or piracy. Since I can't access Pallas' new album on Musify or amazon at this stage, I had to put those mp3s on my Google drive to stream them from my phone. I would rather have the CD anyway, and I'll get it when it's available affordably. I may have invested heavily in Jadis and Denny Laine due to their catalogues' scarcity, but that's for another post.</div><div><span> </span>It's too easy to download or stream these days. Vinyl is back (like it never left, but again, for another day). It's like trading in something at the shop. Even if it's something they don't have and not on every corner, they still may not want it. I'm not going to waste time, money or data trying to upload them again. I tried contacting them, but have not heard back. Anyone looking for either of these albums on those site are on their own. File-sharing networks (Warez) like the old Napster, Limewire, BitTorrent, Kazaa and the Pirate Bay aren't as common anymore and can still cause damage to your devices. I actually don't upload or download as much as I used to nowadays. I don't even stream much TV. As for those sites, if I upload one more album and they don't do a thing, they'll never get another from me again. No one makes one ruble from it anyhow, which proves a point. Most of my old files have been wiped or disappeared over the years. Some are off of CDs I still have, but I can't rip them like I used to. Better to cut my losses and lossy files and just move on. (UPDATE: The Pallas one was uploaded by another person already, yet is not recognised in the bands discography.)</div>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Moscow, Russia, 12951555.8233044 37.622363427.513070563821152 2.4661133999999976 84.13353823617885 72.7786134tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-32256010859305237532023-12-12T21:24:00.003-05:002023-12-12T21:24:42.219-05:00Denny Laine 1944 - 2023<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/boltofblue/32553300257/in/photolist-aR7VWZ-aR7VPg-aR7VFr-aR7Vz2-aR7VoR-aR7Vg6-2Yrous-2Yro3f-2YmXoT-2YmVXV-z6zNwD-2njp6Zu-egyn8w-RACb2x" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="IMG_20161210_232011"><img alt="IMG_20161210_232011" height="500" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/7898/32553300257_d807e8c2eb.jpg" width="375" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Denny Laine, 2016</td></tr></tbody></table><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><p> The music world is in shock over the death of Denny Laine after suffering from pneumonia for the past few months. It's another reminder that much of that generation is getting fewer by the day. It also brings up the fact that most of his solo catalogue is still out of print. I've brought this up when he was alive, and with others who are also gone now where some have theirs reissues and some not yet. It's too soon right now for his family to even consider that at this stage. Also, the rights lay with several different companies, mostly small labels. Most albums and CDs can have hefty prices and now that Laine is deceased, they will likely go up more. I managed to get 1988's <i>Lonely Road</i> at a doable price. I even settled for a US LP of <i>Holly Days</i> for pennies before we learned of his illness. His widow Elizabeth (like John and Lisa Wetton, they were only married a short time) said there was even a new album recorded that could be released in the new year when the time is right. I managed to get a reissue (there are too many, usually tagging Paul McCartneys name on) of <i>Japanese Tears</i> called <i>In Flight</i> signed in 2016 at BeatleCuse: The Deux Over in Syracuse (Beatles tribute concert, one of two he did that year).</p><p>Even Jim Diamonds catalogue remains unavailable several years after his passing, yet he's not as well known compared to Laine. Even some limited editions would be enough since having copies made en masse may not be feasible in this economy. Some reissues disappear when interest wanes on both major and indie labels. Streaming services are taking off programmes to cut costs, so it doesn't always bode well for niche artists like this. The demand has to be there before the work can be done as the Facebook group I help run has diehards asking for lesser known people in an age trying to compete with Taylor Swift and Beyoncé. Laines work reminds us of a simpler time. There are also several compilations of the original Moody Blues available, sometimes combining with the later era (Mike Pinder is the last surviving founding member). I may now spend the next ten months trying to get everything. It'd be great if I won this competition for a $5,000 gift card for amazon.com so I could get the pricier ones from third party sellers that are there, while I'd have to win lottery tickets or even try my luck at local shops for other titles (they could be gone by the time I get there if there was ever anything left).</p><p>Downloading is never enough and Denny would turn in his new grave if we did that (from pirate sites, of course). We should suggest to the original or reissue labels that these albums need to come back and streaming them, even on a legal service is too easy and earns twopence for the estate. Get all this sorted by what would have been his 80th birthday on 29th October (now in the same boat as Peter Green).</p><p>Goodbye, Denny. It took a long time to forge your own path and I tried to catch up for thirty years. Hope you and the other original Moodies, Jimmy (McColluch) and Linda can play together now. RIP.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Lee County, FL, USA26.6630286 -81.9534815-1.647205236178845 -117.1097315 54.973262436178842 -46.797231499999995tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-19747106400658849262023-11-06T08:04:00.006-05:002023-12-31T07:26:34.492-05:00Anita Baker<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/geoliv/3209364422/in/photolist-5TAQem-CJgft-NnLHwa-8J92PY-2ozyAVQ-2ozyY6Z-2oztgjc-2ozwFf1-2ozxWb4-2ozuece-2ozQgyA-2ozLtPt-2ozRp7L-2ozPofq-2ozQdzj-2ozRkVW-2ozQckk-2ozRkvT-2ozPjjE-2ozLoJ3-2ozLnv1-2ozLmZS-2ozPfBV-2ozRAFA-2ozRfuv-2ozLjcs-2ozLiJJ-2ozRyk3-2ozRcau-2ozRCUo-2ozRCJU-2ozRhsi-2ozLmLv-2ozRBBP-2ozRgiu-2ozPe1o-2ozRdVP-2ozLgSn-2ozQhbc-2ozQh6T-2ozLv47-2ozQgVh-2ozQgV7-2ozLuZK-2ozPpXU-2ozRqiJ-2ozLuQB-2ozPpQu-2ozQgDk-2ozQgya" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Anita Baker Performs @ Lincoln 2.0 Ball"><img alt="Anita Baker Performs @ Lincoln 2.0 Ball" height="375" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/3337/3209364422_f3b26032a8.jpg" width="500" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Anita Baker at the Lincoln 2.0 Festival, 2009</td></tr></tbody></table><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><p> Haven't posted here in six months' time, having focused on the sister blogs and my life, but the time has come to write about an artist I remember from growing up that I don't listen to or hear from often, this time being soul legend Anita Baker. Four years ago, she was able to get back her masters from Warner Music Group, where was signed to Elektra Records (transferred to sister label Atlantic in the mid-'90s when for AC/DC and Yes, it was the other way around until the parent company spun off of Time Warner in 2004 and the former moved to Sony and A&R queen Sylvia Rhone to Universal). While the dispute was a couple years ago, it took six months to settle. Warner has divested other artists this past decade since buying Parlophone from EMI. The past three years saw artists and songwriters selling their rights. Baker is setting a new precedent by getting them back. I asked the crystal ball which label would put out the remasters, and it would be Craft, the reissue label at Concord, one of the largest independents in the world, which also acquired Natalie Cole, REM, Jewel, Violent Femmes and Collective Soul from WMG. Nothing officially confirmed, of course, so more as this develops.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Wayne County, MI, USA42.2790746 -83.33618799999999313.968840763821156 -118.49243799999999 70.58930843617884 -48.179937999999993tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-84838565087230115482023-05-25T06:11:00.001-04:002023-05-25T06:11:59.742-04:00Tina Turner Early Solo Albums<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/loscuadernosdejulia/3409943625/in/photolist-6cjRrt-cRGZVN-95dYUz-2djxMLp-2eHgsCM-9cum7Z-2jecXf9-5Vkk76-dMCd4g-n6bHR-n6bHX-6QtSWn-n6bHU-xM2b7-6QtRE6-2oCKHS5-auoeYN-3oXfVP-CqW8iH-BSqN2a-auoeVw-5QMKHj-5QHt38-5QHthT-5QHtxK-5QMKAy-5QMK1N-5QMK6q-5QMK3j-5QHt8V-5QHsYM-5QMK5h-5QMKhA-5QMKu7-5QMK2y-5QHtyM-5QMKxA-5QMKaQ-5QMKBd-5QMKoS-5QMK45-5QMKmG-5QHt2c-5QMKej-5QMKEU-5QHtuF-5QMKzd-5QHtba-5QMKrm-5QMKcW" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Tina Turner at MEN Arena April 2009 3"><img alt="Tina Turner at MEN Arena April 2009 3" height="513" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/3578/3409943625_6b8e32a9c7_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Tina Turner acoustic performance in Manchester, 2009</td></tr></tbody></table><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><p> Tina Turner has entered the next life at 83. She leaves behind a legacy of music and survival. Many assume her 1984 breakthrough album <i>Private Dancer</i> is her first after leaving the ex (as stated in 1993 biopic <i>What's Love Got to Do with It?</i> for dramatic purposes), but she released four solo albums before that, most have never been on CD. They are <i>Tina Turns the Country On</i>, <i>Acid Queen</i> (which she played in The Whos <i>Tommy</i>), <i>Rough</i> and <i>Love Explosion</i>. These have been released by United Artists, EMI, and/or Ariola Records. EMI bought UA by 1979. In 1983, Turner had Australian manager Roger Davies (who also manages Cher) spearheading her comeback and got her signed to then-EMI subsidiary Capitol (she later transferred to then-sister labels Virgin and Parlophone) after a few years playing clubs around Europe, including behind the Iron Curtain. It was like she never left.</p><p>I got Boris <i>Private Dancer</i>, <i>Break Every Rule</i> and <i>Foreign Affair</i> as they were on the list. Yet these lost albums may have been unavailable because they may have reminded Turner of that difficult time understandably (the third one is obvious). They could be reissued as two CDs since two albums can fit onto one CD as both official and unofficial reissues alike have done that to save money. BMG (which used to own Ariola) bought her catalogue a couple years ago as part of a buying spree of her peers' work started by onetime colleague Bob Dylan not long before that. It would likely be up to them, Davies and Turners estate and family if these albums ever get remastered as it's too soon right now.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com08700 Küsnacht, Switzerland47.3184279 8.592720919.008194063821158 -26.5635291 75.628661736178856 43.7489709tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-86903502482302830482023-05-02T07:58:00.015-04:002023-12-30T07:19:20.297-05:00Aerosmith (1973) 50th Anniversary<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aerosmith_-_Aerosmith.jpg#/media/File:Aerosmith_-_Aerosmith.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Aerosmith - Aerosmith.jpg" height="300" src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/58/Aerosmith_-_Aerosmith.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Courtesy Legacy Recordings/Sony Music Entertainment</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br />By The cover art can be obtained from <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_Records" title="Columbia Records">Columbia</a> / <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Music" title="Sony Music">SME</a>., <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Aerosmith_-_Aerosmith.jpg" title="Fair use of copyrighted material in the context of Aerosmith (album)">Fair use</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1195541">Link</a></p><p> Aerosmith are about to be on their final tour (my sister might go), but without drummer Joey Kramer, who retired from the road in 2020. It's now fifty years on since their first album, and frontman Steven Tyler purposely changed his voice since they were all a right bundle of nerves being new to the studio in early days. Lead single "Dream On", which wasn't a hit until after <i>Toys in the Attic</i> was released, will show you (I recently discovered a cover version with the late Ronnie James Dio and Yngwie Malmsteen on amazon Music from one of those budget compilations). With AI being more than what sci-fi legend Isaac Asimov had ever imagined, it can be used to change ones voice (ex-pat Canadians Drake and the Weeknd being at the centre of AI-gate). What could be done is make Tylers voice sound like it did from 1974-80 and even enhance the others' playing due to their inexperience with a producer in those days (I'm not wholly familiar with the bands work myself). If A&R legend John Kalodner (who appeared in drag in a couple of their videos in cameos and even on <i>The Simpsons</i>), who signed them, Peter Gabriel, Asia and possibly Elton John (in the US and Canada) to Geffen still worked with them, he might not have allowed this, but he's a pensioner now. Aerosmith themselves would also have to approve, of course. There could be a remaster with a remix of the original album and a new one with the AI vocals. It could be done, as no one has announced an official release of anyones work with such manoeuvres just yet. It's being considered and already being done for new material. Until then, we all can just "Dream On".</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Boston, MA 02205, USA42.3503234 -71.055043414.040089563821155 -106.2112934 70.660557236178846 -35.8987934tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-15605864115939275862023-04-07T07:21:00.001-04:002023-04-07T07:21:13.333-04:00Black Sabbath: Born Again - 40 Years On<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SabbathBorn.jpg#/media/File:SabbathBorn.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="SabbathBorn.jpg" height="300" src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/ed/SabbathBorn.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Courtesy Warner Records/BMG (non US/Canada)</td></tr></tbody></table><p><br />By The cover art can be obtained from <a href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertigo_Records" title="Vertigo Records">Vertigo</a> / <a class="mw-redirect" href="//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bros._Records" title="Warner Bros. After Dio and Vinny Appices departure in 1982, most of the original lineup sans Osbourne hired Ian Gillan late of Deep Purple and his own band to take over on vocals, but he was from another world than them and to this days, there remains mixed reaction to this album. Producer Robin Cable Black previously worked with Genesis, Elton John and Queen. Bev Bevan from fellow Brummies ELO (they shared management with Sabbath then) did drums on tour, and for one track, a misunderstanding on set measurements inspired a famous scene in <i>This is Spin̈al Tap</i>. After the tour, Gillan was on-again off-again with Purple, while there would be a revolving door of lineups at Sabbath until 1997s <i>Reunion</i>.</p><p>The original Ampex master tapes were unavailable for over three decades, but they were found a couple years ago, according to Tony Iommi, and here's hoping that a remaster is available by October for the anniversary on double vinyl and CD from Rhino in North America and BMG for international. The second disc would be of outtakes and/or live tracks. We're still waiting for Martins era of the band on IRS Records to be reissued however, and it can take just as long, if not longer, to remix and remaster as it did to record it in the first place, as well as sorting through the red tape as it were. There had been a deLuxe Edition in 2011, but it was from other tapes, so now the album can be given justice. The LP can replicate the custom UK labels and sleeve with updated information (the Western Hemisphere had standard ones), Right now, I'd be lucky to come across the original import LP in the shop again.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Kidlington OX5, UK51.8665116 -1.275564523.556277763821157 -36.4318145 80.176745436178848 33.8806855tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-10559078604679157502023-03-08T07:25:00.002-05:002023-03-09T06:46:02.408-05:00amazon.com<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/ktoddstorch/2604463910/in/photolist-4Y9yob-f1S4-2gvnFqk-8whsx6-2bv9z5-57dw8R-7ZGVgY-2xp63p-2nzFUtx-7MNGih-7gqpec-2m9P9Z2-2hUmVyF-2iUeeLr-nFTENE-2cmFpSV-zsrwu-74xMF-74xMQ-MUQcZ-2kpWxNa-6yV91t-2hsf9F2-2exJSeF-H1q8NB-2nBYnhk-22xXBeJ-2jkke9x-2hB4jLT-2j7QviT-2fGMJf7-2g586Kx-2giEQuL-mWK6rW-c5b4MN-SaYhLr-23Rv8Gx-27uFMcN-nNhdo-2iHe6Xn-c5b4JL-2iWKqE3-2kQTaU5-2nUo4ZN-np6UEG-2e2oBzy-36Hqe2-GY7MUU-26geNRN-S22A1e" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Amazon.com headquarters"><img alt="Amazon.com headquarters" height="512" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/3011/2604463910_895cf920d1_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">amazons Headquarters in the Seattle-Tacoma-Vancouver area</td></tr></tbody></table><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><p> amazon.com needs no introduction, yet they don't really really have <i>everything</i> that I'm looking for. It may not have been used enough, or they don't want you going somewhere else (close rivals Walmart are having trouble, but more because they were nicked and burgled). I have to wait a while before adding the new Yes and solo Morten Harket releases, while Fish would rather sell his new live albums direct or (because of post-Brexit VAT) through an EU-based indie distributor (and can you blame him, given his past troubles?). I've gotten pro-CD-Rs of Al Chantrey (né MIA Alan Williams), Alan Reed (now back in Pallas) and the late Ray Thomas (from during a Moodies hiatus), even though I was expecting real CDs of the latter two. I bought the new Rick Wakeman on amazon and found that the local place had it too, which they don't always have, yet I earn my points on Bing religiously. I'm sure she'd probably just say it'll always be a "Part of Me"! This one is more of a "Dark Horse" (not George Harrisons, of course). Back then, it was "By the Grace of God". I sound like Gene Shalit! I started this "Last Friday Night"! I could go on all day!<div><br /></div><div>Before she was Katy Perry, before <i>American Idol</i>, she was Katy Hudson (not to be confused with Kate Hudson), who was brought up in a strict Christian home in Santa Barbara County. At a young age, she was signed to an indie label in Multnomah County (chosen for the location as I took the zip code from the CD), recorded in Davidson County (the epicentre of country and Christian music), and could have been the next Stacie Orrico (a CCM Britney Spears at one time, perhaps), but the label closed down after the CD came out and it sold very few copies. Katy Hudson changed her name to Katy Perry because of the unrelated new film star at the time, and tried for several years to launch a secular career before starting over the opposite of an Amy Grant (I know this sounds more like a mere review). Once she was a household name, word got out about this early release, which is sought after, even though it contrasts the hits she's had since 2008s <i>One of the Boys</i>. A right chancer can make a few bob off this one, God willing (since He is praised on there). The price could "Rise". This is "Never Really Over"!</div><div><br /></div><div>I saw <i>Katy Hudson</i> in the charity shop for pennies, and recognised it straight away, realising it was too good to be there, so I tried at first going to the local record shop to trade it in, but got a low-ball offer. I get that it's a small business, and they know the story themselves, so I decided to sell it online. Amazon wasn't feasible because I would have to had several items and pay to set up an account, so it's not on, so I turned to eBay, where some interest was there, and ultimately sold it to a fan in Clark County for much less than what others would. He won the pools, and he's in Las Vegas, where Pezza has a residency and some <i>Idol</i> auditions to boot (also held in Nashville and [New] Orleans Parish). I even told missus on Twitter that I found this from early days, even though she was a different girl back then whose initial phase is another animal like Alanis Morissette, Tiffany, and even Mr Conway Twitty, showing that we all must start off somewhere. It is very unlikely Katy Perry will ever reissue this album herself because of just how far apart from her current career it is. You have a better chance with early '90s Alanis and KLF at this rate. Just something the diehards are willing to look and pay for.</div><p></p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Portland, OR 97266, USA45.4863921 -122.559374117.176158263821158 -157.7156241 73.796625936178856 -87.4031241tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-76238646116670437142022-10-21T05:33:00.005-04:002022-11-18T06:00:09.692-05:00Classic Rock Radio: Latest Update From Jadis

The founder of the indie label Progress Records, Hansi Cross, passed on some time ago and his family closed down the label, so the rights would likely be going back to Sylvan and Bon Amici. Legendary Northerers <a href="http://www.oasisinet.com">oasis</a> have moved their whole catalogue in the US and Canada to <a href="http://www.warnerbrosrecords.com">Reprise Records</a>, and not just their swan song, <span style="font-style: italic;">Dig Out Your Soul</span>, after being with <a href="http://www.epicrecords.com">Epic</a> for over a decade. They may have become unhappy with <a href="http://www.sonymusic.com">Sony</a> in North America because their success has waned here for the past ten years time and reduced promotion, yet could still close the place in cities such as Cincinnati. In their backyard, they had been indie, starting with <a href="http://www.creation-records.com">Creation</a> and later vanity label Big Brother.
The last row between Noel and Liam Gallagher may be the final blow, and no reconciliation is on the horizon, so "Our Kid" and the rest of the band after Noel's departure will launch a spinoff band.
<span style="font-style: italic;">Time Flies: 1994-2009</span> will cover their whole career while <span style="font-style: italic;">Stop the Clocks</span>, which mainly focused on early days, left out some UK hits. It will be released this June.

The Carrier Dome, as it's been called all my life, will now be the JMA Dome due to a rift between SU and the air con trailblazers. The local mobile company bought the naming rights as their new plant can see the stadium just over the horizon from their window. It will take some time for everyone to adjust, though many will never let go, I'm sure (you know how it is).</p><p>I'm no sports fan, so I seldom set foot in there, even though the Dome is close to home, and the school is a big part of the local economy. I tagged who has played there over the past four decades. Prince closed the place in 1985. I'll see Paul McCartney once again and Elton John at last later this year (wonder if he knows about L. Frank Baum being from the area when it comes to <i>Goodbye Yellow Brick Road</i>). Non-Orange events can only be held off-semester or when there are away games during term.</p><p>There have been renovations and there will be more. The new roof reminds me of Wembley Stadium getting done up, changing its character. The I-81 project just down the hill will also be a game changer (did see Jim Boeheim drive by one time). Just one sign around the corner needs to have the old guard taken off now. Another on the new structure at the Loud House has been put on top since then.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Syracuse, NY 13244, USA43.047826099999988 -76.143229114.737592263821142 -111.2994791 71.358059936178833 -40.9869791tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-82802838284258411232022-03-07T19:52:00.006-05:002024-01-15T07:08:39.687-05:00No more pirate CDs?<p></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj1qQK6ybp6Hy3GtkfU5gbzkeXub3RxriOkBLwgDz_8G39eQqwMNOB2rP4OioGcR_t1PEEJi1pAina2s7UfPGPKNyi0Y5DzXDzkk23pL_2fj5o0hrNrCauQiIUZDCH9cBOWvt6_KrMSXk_dhspeSHIzR12h_vcAvIIf9Z22JV9-acTqYgQ_StLhXQ=s4032" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEj1qQK6ybp6Hy3GtkfU5gbzkeXub3RxriOkBLwgDz_8G39eQqwMNOB2rP4OioGcR_t1PEEJi1pAina2s7UfPGPKNyi0Y5DzXDzkk23pL_2fj5o0hrNrCauQiIUZDCH9cBOWvt6_KrMSXk_dhspeSHIzR12h_vcAvIIf9Z22JV9-acTqYgQ_StLhXQ=s320" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Just several I've gotten recently</td></tr></tbody></table><br /> I may not be getting any more pirate CDs from Boris any time soon. It's also because of limited availability of albums in my own area and having to go on the road or online, which can add up either way and that's before I ship. Customs on both ends may now be wary at this time as my incoming package has not had an update in a couple weeks. The two have had their issues prior to this anyway. It's become a waiting game and then some. We've gone from the latter stages of the pandemic to far worse. Also, after those CDs do come, I shouldn't get anything else from there for the time being, even if you can't tell by looking at it (clever lot, that).</p><p>Universal and Sony have closed their Moscow offices, and Warner might next, as have many international companies, so people there would rely on pirate CDs, although downloading has become more prominent in the past two decades anyway. It's nothing compared to the petrol rises back here.</p><p>I've also done something similar with someone in Ukraine, but we haven't done that in a period because he could no longer get anything over the border and now everyone is in survival mode, so I'm just worried about him and everyone there. He sent few pirates, and was more into providing bootlegs.</p><p>As for Boris, I may break it to him gently once I give him information about the package, knowing how delicate this will be. He knows all too well about he who shan't be named. I will miss doing this, but it'll be the least of our problems compared to everything else. I will just support the artists and buy new when I can, particularly within days of release if I can't on the day (as with indie and lesser known artists). Maybe I've spent too much all these years with this scheme, letting it go on for so long.</p><p>UPDATE: My package is here now, but because it was sent before the war, it was probably still allowed, but another might not be until further notice. Also, the website that he orders from hasn't has an update in a few months, so nothing new from there again until things settle down.</p><p>UPDATE 2: I've tried sending him another through a third-party service, but he has been surprisingly been uncooperative lately and won't respond to my e-mails anymore to provide information needed to proceed with the order. We all have lives no matter where we are in the world, but he usually writes back in a matter of days. Also, between the decreasing availability of titles on the list and having to deal my own life and expenses, I may not be able to do this anymore, even when everything's back to normal there. This has become too much, and I'll admit I haven't gotten back to him straightaway either in fairness, so I'm no better. Still, even the vast time zone difference hasn't been that much of a barrier. My inner Ann Landers tells me I should probably stop dealing with him, but I need closure first. I've spent too much time and money for over a decade doing all this. Now, it's more personal than external if he won't keep up his end. Even here, not everyone can be looked up online, let alone there. I think I'm done with him since I don't even listen to all of the CDs I have anymore, let alone need that many more. I had his whereabouts on paper or the plastic from the last shipment, but it was binned after I took everything out thinking I'd never need them. It's a wild goose chase and holy grail at this stage now. I won't use the term "ghosting" because that's b------s. I don't know what the problem is except that he's incommunicado, even though he's said before he gets busy, but don't we all? It takes a few minutes of your day to tell me where you live and where to ring you (I won't). Dr Phil says, "It's not an essay question" (and I wrote the essay, and then he'd say, "How's that workin' for ya?!" and "Don't invest more than you can afford to lose" [I don't watch that show anymore]). Boris, please answer me.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Moscow Domodedovo Mikhail Lomonosov Airport (DME), Moskovskaya oblast', Russia55.410306899999988 37.902451327.100073063821142 2.7462013000000027 83.720540736178833 73.0587013tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-63566028283921918502022-02-14T05:58:00.000-05:002022-02-14T05:58:24.847-05:00Peter Gabriel: PG Certificate<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/44608864@N08/5579166460/in/photolist-9v1FPb-hgyfVy-22oHN7-8Z6hGp-8Z6hTB-8Z9m79-8Z9mod-8Z6i68-8Z6i48-89jTXZ-8nh61M-JqQG8K-22oHSh-2nQ6V-8EPEap-22oHUY-9uXFs2-JAQyc4-dcD2b3-dcD22B-6vKnwL-aarE8b-HEEfmC-2mrMUkW-22oHNU-2nQ6R-9uXFBk-hcataq-aDvP5y-8T8Bkm-6bWsAH-MktxWV-8EPBDx-68NAnq-2nQQ8-9Sr4i3-8ESJwQ-8ESU9Y-drPLfC-8ESNw1-8EPQ2e-8EST2h-8ESTp7-3Vw6Gd-8EPRJV-8EPQRD-8ESWnY-8EPTti-8ESY19-8ESXJJ" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship Ceremony"><img alt="Skoll Awards for Social Entrepreneurship Ceremony" height="333" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/5137/5579166460_ab8db5e2a3.jpg" width="500" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Peter Gabriel, 2011</td></tr></tbody></table><script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.js"></script><p> In 2019, Peter Gabriel released the compilation <i>Rated PG</i>, which features songs from films which weren't already on his own albums, apart from the original version of "In Your Eyes", later in 1989's <i>Say Anything</i>. I find their 2003 album, appropriately called <i>Fanatic</i> at the shop, and I buy it because two members at the time were also in IQ (Martin Orford, who since returned after leaving the business over piracy, and John Jowitt) and the drummer Steve Christey has worked for the late John Wetton on solo albums and with Geoffrey Downes on the first two <i>Icon</i> albums prior to the return of original Asia proper. Turns out I friended frontman Gary Chandler on Facebook several years ago, but thought little of it until a couple months ago, as it was now meant to happen (and added Jowitt recently, and told him that I got an autographed CD of the band), even though he's not any more active on social media personally than I am.</p><p>Then there's trying to get more CDs. The next two I bought I had to get online. They weren't cheap, mind, and I've paid a pretty penny for other people. A lot of them are a right fortune that, and I know where in person they might be available at a remotely better price, given the rise on essential items these days (they only had one, but with some determination, the follow-up could be found on amazon via a German seller I know at a doable price as other sellers there, Discogs and eBay charge an arm and leg for P&P alone). The band have their own label and have the same indie distributor as IQs label, so they could reissue these albums, making them more affordable and available.</p><p>I also need a freely licenced photo for Wikipedia as the ones I used here can't be used there, just adding to my Holy Grail wild goose chase! If they could play the US, I'd take my own, but it's hard enough right now to tour near home, and they don't have the same resources as some of their peers like visas and a budget, even if they started a crowdfund appeal like Marillion used to do, since Steve Rothery have helped Jadis get their foot in the door.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Southampton SO32, UK50.9854335 -1.188726322.675199663821154 -36.3449763 79.295667336178838 33.9675237tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-47205326782506584352022-01-03T20:22:00.026-05:002022-02-25T20:18:41.111-05:00amazon.com Pro CD-Rs<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a data-flickr-embed="true" href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/tim_ellis/6379861783/in/photolist-aHLunT-aHLv8c-aHLqJZ-aHLsCX-aHLrtT-aHLtMX-d9YEqX-d9YHmE-d9YGb1-d9YFe2-d9YGsR-4btLaJ-4btKR9-26GKKbv-8mbr5L-31f2Ek-26GKJ64-oxGR4-26GKHDT-atQB5s-26GKJHX-atMVEz-2kKj4zw-Jzh1B3-2kKf7DY-2kKf7A6-H3WTWp-H3WTok-26GKJsB-H3WUi6-25Br3zh-2kKfB81-2kKjbHE-2kKj9j6-2kKeXas-2kKePQY-2kKipNE-2kKhGdW-2kKdoHa-2kKixJ4-2kKittL-2kKiJm1-26GKKNH" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="Alan Reed"><img alt="Alan Reed" height="332" src="https://live.staticflickr.com/6091/6379861783_ec228d785d.jpg" width="500" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Alan Reed in 2011</td></tr></tbody></table> We all know amazon.com these days, yet sometimes, when you order a CD from them, either direct or a third-party seller, it may be on a pro CD-R. It's an authorised, licenced product, but you look underneath, it looks like the kind of thing you'd burn yourself twenty years ago (yes, it's been that long!). I just bought the second solo album from the late Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues, <i>Hopes, Wishes and Dreams</i>. It has been approved by his estate and label, and it may be a way to make product available, and this was done well before the current COVID supply chain catastrophe made it an issue. Even Alan Reed (pictured), late of Pallas, had his début full length solo release, First in a Field of One, sent this way when I ordered my copy, and he insisted that I order his CDs through the Merch Desk instead (can't always order directly outside the US). Even his former day job at the BBC (news producer) hasn't covered this lesser known practise of pro CD-Rs, I bet. MIA indie artist Al Chantrey (né Alan Williams) had some of his DIY releases available through here, but are now as scarce as hens teeth, having had less trouble finding Robbie Williams and Take That in my area, but anyway. Even Procol Harum have one. Can't come up with others, but they are out there.<p></p><p>I have, however, told you before about a similar scheme called The Disk Kiosk, which drew heavily on Universals catalogue. That unceremoniously went into obscurity along with some of their titles.</p><p>Maybe if some artists did allow their CDs to be pressed on pro CD-R, then regular ones, new or used, wouldn't be so rare and/or expensive. I need most of Jadis's CDs as that's my new thing this year. I guess if I'm desperate enough, I'll get the albums on CD-R if it's all I can afford and it's what's offered.</p>John Sposatohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06539424629390934414noreply@blogger.com0Seattle, WA 98103, USA47.6600087 -122.342557519.349774863821153 -157.4988075 75.970242536178844 -87.1863075tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8439629581530879203.post-69041451545668230952021-09-29T16:21:00.011-04:002022-01-22T21:35:44.242-05:00Times Union Center<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgruf3PgaoCn_3Ds7S9DxbF4_xfXAun66Eq7TBefl2_Afnj4KDlqBNbuAhabbjMsanOZG-glqO5aWFwHNGFpWWzmYJazRBuQ7lAs6Qasniw3h-0qtvlBCJUFVW13dqys5H6p20lxU0sf8ITe5JWTvcuM1zLI3bcJ6feHxmZerpbBIBMLZLLJ8LyHg=s600" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="450" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgruf3PgaoCn_3Ds7S9DxbF4_xfXAun66Eq7TBefl2_Afnj4KDlqBNbuAhabbjMsanOZG-glqO5aWFwHNGFpWWzmYJazRBuQ7lAs6Qasniw3h-0qtvlBCJUFVW13dqys5H6p20lxU0sf8ITe5JWTvcuM1zLI3bcJ6feHxmZerpbBIBMLZLLJ8LyHg=s320" width="240" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">MVP Health Arena</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p> The Times Union Center on NY 32 in Albany, NY will be changing its name as the newspaper, part of the Hearst conglomerate, decided not to renew the naming rights.
